New Zealand Scholarships contribute to equitable economic growth and poverty reduction in your country. Through Scholarships for tertiary education and skills development, New Zealand contributes to a growing population of well-educated and highly-skilled people with the necessary abilities and qualifications to make a real and positive difference to their country and communities and who will generate and sustain economic growth for your country.
New Zealand Scholarships are offered in key priority subject areas that are jointly agreed with the Government of your country. Scholarships provide an opportunity for people to obtain qualifications at participating New Zealand universities and technical institutions.

New Zealand ASEAN Scholar Awards (NZAS) are available for postgraduate study in New Zealand. NZAS applications are due by 30 June of each year (please note there is a pre-application process).
Priority Subject Areas
Scholarships are offered in specific subject areas that are relevant to the development needs and employment opportunities of your country. Scholarships are available for the following subjects:
- Agriculture Development – Animal Health, Plant Health, Phytosanitary, Agricultural and Horticultural Science, Food Safety and Food Quality, Post Harvest Technologies, Biotechnology, Biosecurity, Vegetables Production, Livestock, Aquaculture, Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Economics;
- Disaster Risk Management – Emergency Management, hazard assessment and management, climate change adaption, natural resource management, environmental management, geology, land planning and development;
- Public Sector Management – Law, justice, legal and judicial reform, public administration, public policy and management;
- Private Sector Development – Trade Facilitation, International Trade, Trade Policy, Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) Development, Private Sector Management, Development Economics, Applied Economics, Value Chain, Accountancy, Finance, Banking, Commerce, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Supply Chain Management including Tourism (tourism management, tourism planning, sustainable tourism, eco-tourism) and Renewable Energy;
- English Language Training.
Qualification Types and Duration
The following types of qualifications are available under New Zealand ASEAN Scholar Awards:
- Postgraduate Diploma (1 year)
- Masters (research and/or coursework) (1-2 years)
- Doctoral (PhD) (3.5-4 years)
