ELIGIBILITY
Contest open only to college graduates with a four-year degree who are age 18 or over. Employees, officers, directors, their immediate family members spouse, children, parents, siblings and members of the same household (whether or not related) of The Economist Group ("Sponsor") and its affiliated companies, subsidiaries, distributors, dealers, retailers, advertising and promotion agencies, webmasters/suppliers and any and all other companies or persons associated with this Contest, are not eligible to participate. The winner may be asked to provide proof of date of birth, identification and educational qualifications. By participating in this Contest, each entrant agrees to be bound by these Official Rules. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.
PROMOTION PERIOD
The Contest is open from February 1st 2014 to April 25th 2014. Entrants must complete the simulation test and click to submit their scores via the website to Sponsor no later than 11:59 PM EST on April 25th to be considered. Sponsor is not responsible for unsuccessful attempts to enter. Sponsor's computer is the official clock for this Contest. To be eligible for the drawing, entries must be received and recorded by Sponsor during the Promotion Period. LIMIT: ONLY ONE ENTRY PER PERSON.
HOW TO ENTER
Each entrant must complete the full-length (2.5 hour) Economist GMAT simulation test. Each entrant may sign up for and take the test only once. Any attempt by any person to obtain more than one entry via any method will void all of that person's entries and that person will be disqualified. Any use of robotic, automatic, macro, programmed or like entry methods, will disqualify all entries by such methods. All entries become the property of Sponsor. Entries that are obtained through unauthorized sources are void. Entrants may not use written materials, the Internet, calculators, mobile phones or any other devices during the test. As on the actual GMAT, the only aid an entrant may use on the test in this competition is an erasable notepad and a marker. Entrants must complete the test alone without the aid of any other person(s). Entrants must complete the test in the allotted time, and may utilize optional breaks officially provided during the test. Once begun, the test may not be paused for any other reason. Incomplete tests will not be considered. Entrants must be willing to attend one of the sponsor business schools in either 2014 or 2015.
WINNING
The winner will be the entrant with the highest simulation test score. If two or more entrants tie for the highest score, they will be contacted by email and asked to submit an essay in the form of an Analytics Writing Assessment (AWA) modeled after a typical AWA question one would encounter on the GMAT. Each tying entrant must submit his/her essay within three (3) days after being contacted. The essay will be in the same format as on the GMAT. (http://www.mba.com/the-gmat/test-structure-and-overview/analytical-writi…). The AWA consists of one 30-minute essay: Analysis of an Argument. The essay must be written in English. The topic and more information regarding the essay and requirements will be announced at the time of the tie-breaker. Specific knowledge of the essay topic is not necessary; only the participant’s capacity to write analytically will be assessed.
The winner will be notified no later than May 31st and will be granted a period of one year to apply to his/her sponsor school of choice. To receive the prize, the winner must apply to and be accepted at one of the business schools sponsoring this Contest. The winner must meet the other requirements and application process as set forth by the sponsor business school to be granted his/her scholarship. If the winner does not meet the other requirements for admission into his/her sponsor school choice, or does not apply within one year of being notified about his/her win, the scholarship will not be granted to him/her and will be provided to the next qualifying candidate with the highest sim test score. If the winner fails to comply with these Official Rules, the scholarship may be revoked and provided to the next qualifying entrant with the highest sim test score.
The prize winner is solely responsible for all taxes, fees, surcharges and shipping on any prize received, including federal and state income taxes, and must furnish Sponsor with his/her social security number. The prize winner (or parent/legal guardian if potential winner is a minor in his/her state of residence) will be required to execute an affidavit of eligibility and liability/publicity release. The prize winner will be notified by telephone and/or by email. If the affidavit and release are not received by Sponsor within 7 business days following notification, an alternate winner may be selected.
PRIZE/VALUE
The prize is a USD $25,000 tuition scholarship to a business school of the winner’s choice from among the business schools that are sponsoring this Contest. The total value of the prize is $25,000. Payment will be made by Sponsor directly to the business school and may not be used for any purpose other than a tuition scholarship for the winner, and may not be granted in any other form such as cash or check and may not be transferred by the winner to another person. The odds of winning depend on the number of entrants, the test scores of all entrants and essays submitted in the event of a tie. For the name of the winner, send an email requesting such information to gmatscholarship@economist.comwith words “Brightest Mind Scholarship winner” in the subject line within 30 days after the end of the Promotion Period.
GENERAL CONDITIONS
All federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply. Except where prohibited by law, winner grants permission to Sponsor, and those acting under Sponsor's authority the right to the use of his/her name, picture, likeness, voice, biographical information and statements, at any time or times, for advertising, trade, publicity and promotional purposes without additional compensation, in all media now known or hereafter discovered, worldwide and on the Internet and World Wide Web, without notice, review or approval. No substitution of prize permitted by winner. Prize is not for resale, cannot be redeemed for cash, is not transferable or exchangeable, and cannot be used in conjunction with any discount, premium or rebate offer. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute the prize(s) with prize(s) of equal or greater value if prize is unavailable. If, for any reason, the Contest is not capable of running as intended by Sponsor due to, without limitation, errors in these Official Rules or advertising for this Contest, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, human error or any other cause beyond the control of Sponsor that, in the sole judgment of Sponsor, could corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Contest, Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest. Sponsor’s decisions are final. No correspondence will be entered into.
LIABILITY LIMITATIONS
Sponsor is not responsible for interrupted or unavailable satellite, network, server, Internet Service Provider (ISP), website, telephone or other connections, availability or accessibility, or miscommunications, or failed computer, satellite, telephone or cable transmissions, or lines, or technical failure or jumbled, corrupted, scrambled, delayed, or misdirected transmissions or computer hardware or software malfunctions, failures, or technical errors or difficulties, or other errors of any kind whether human, mechanical, electronic or network or the incorrect or inaccurate capture of entry or other information or the failure to capture, or loss of, any such information. Persons who tamper with or abuse any aspect of this Contest, as solely determined by the Sponsors, will be disqualified. Should any portion of the Contest be, in Sponsor's sole opinion, compromised by virus, worms, bugs, non-authorized human intervention, technical failures or other causes which, in the sole opinion of the Sponsor, corrupt or impair the administration, security, fairness or proper play, or submission of entries, Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to suspend, modify or terminate the Contest, and select the winners from entries received prior to action taken or as otherwise deemed fair and appropriate by the Sponsors. Neither Sponsor nor its respective agencies are responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by website users, tampering, hacking, or by any equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest, and assume no responsibility for any error, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation, or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction, or unauthorized access to or use of the entry webpage
IN NO EVENT WILL SPONSOR, ITS PARENT, AFFILIATES, SUBSIDIARIES AND RELATED COMPANIES, THEIR RESPECTIVE ADVERTISING OR PROMOTION AGENCIES OR ANY OF THEIR RESPECTIVE OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, REPRESENTATIVES AND AGENTS BE RESPONSIBLE OR LIABLE FOR (AND ARE HEREBY RELEASED WITH RESPECT TO) ANY DAMAGES OR LOSSES OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE DAMAGES, PROPERTY DAMAGE OR PERSONAL INJURY/DEATH ARISING OUT OF THIS CONTEST, USE/ACCEPTANCE OF THE PRIZE, AND CONTEST-RELATED ACTIVITIES.
