In partnership with the ASEF University Alumni Network (ASEFUAN) and Politecnico di MilanoSchool of Management, ASEF will organise the Model ASEM project in conjunction with the upcoming 10th ASEM Summit in October 2014 in Milan, Italy.
Model ASEM 2014 is a simulation of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and aims at promoting awareness and creating a deeper understanding of the ASEM process among promising students from Asia and Europe. The topics to be discussed are based on the agenda of the actual ASEM Summit. Participants will also learn about the ASEM Initiative of the Rapid Containment of Pandemic Influenza. Through role-play, participants will enhance their skills of compromise, negotiation and consensus-building.
Before the conference, participants have to undertake research on the country that they will represent, identify the position that they will take on selected themes and prepare an opening statement. Similar to the ASEM Summit, the Model ASEM meeting will conclude with a collective political declaration on the strategic direction of ASEM in relation to key topics – from a youth perspective. Approximately 150 students are expected to attend the Model ASEM in Milan. Application is open until 31 July 2014. The organising team will select participants based on their expertise and ensure a geographical and gender balance. There is no participation fee for the participants select
ed. The organisers will cover the accommodation costs and give a subsidy for transportation (equivalent to an economy class flight) to participants not based in Italy.
Model ASEM will take place in 2014 for the 6th time. Read more about previous simulations…
