Chinese Government Scholarship-WMO Program
Chinese Government Scholarship-WMO Program is a partial scholarship (including a tuition fee waiver, free on-campus accommodation and Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Protection Scheme) established by MOE for World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to sponsor international students to study and research in meteorology, hydrology, and water resources supervision and management in China.
Categories, Duration, Language of Instruction
a. This program only supports undergraduate programs and master’s programs. The scholarship duration is 4-5 years for undergraduates and 2-3 years for master’s students.
b. Undergraduates must take Chinese-taught courses while master’s students will take English-taught courses. Students without adequate Chinese proficiency must take one-year Chinese language (preparatory) study and pass the required test before the major studies.
c. The 2 designated universities for this program are Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology and Hohai University; the majors are limited in Meteorology, Hydrology and Water Resources Monitoring and Management.
Scholarship Coverage
-a waiver of tuition fee;
-free on-campus dormitory accommodation;
-outpatient medical service and Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Protection Scheme for International Students in China.
Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must:
-be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health.
-be a high school graduate under the age of 25 when applying for undergraduate programs;
-be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master’s programs;
Application Procedure
a. Applicants consult the WMO Secretariat for the details and requirements of WMO Program and submit the application as required.
b. Once recommended by the WMO Secretariat, candidates shall contact Hohai University orNanjing University of Information Science and Technology for Admission Letter.
c. Recommended candidates must finish the online application procedure at CSC Online Application System for International Students. Please go to www.csc.edu.cn/laihua orwww.campuschina.org and click Application Online for International Students, complete the required information, submit the completed Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship online and print a hard copy.
e. A package of complete application documents must be submitted to the WMO Secretariat before the deadline. (Please check Application Documents for the detailed checklist.)
f. CSC does not accept any individual application other than the recommended applications from the WMO Secretariat. Candidates with Admission Letter will be placed in the host university; those without Admission Letter should follow CSC’s placement.

Application Documents (in duplicate)
a. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship(in Chinese or English)
b. Notarized highest diploma (photocopy): Prospective diploma winners should submit the official proof of their student status. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.
c. Academic transcripts: Applicants for undergraduate programs must submit notarized official transcript of High School graduation exam. Applicants for master’s programs must submit academic transcript. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
d. Recommendation letters: Applicants for master’s programs must submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors.
e. A Study Plan or Research Proposal in Chinese or English (A minimum of 200 words for undergraduates and 800 words for postgraduates).
f. Applicants under the age of 18 should submit the valid documents of their legal guardians in China.
g. Applicants planning to stay in China for more than 6 months must submit a photocopy of theForeigner Physical Examination Form completed in English (the original copy should be kept by the applicant. The form designed by the Chinese quarantine authority can be downloaded fromwww.csc.edu.cn/laihua or www.campuschina.org). The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.
h. Applicants with Admission Letter from designated universities should enclose the letter in the application package.
i. Applicants with a valid HSK Certificate should enclose it in the application package.
NOTE: The above documents should be bound on top left corner (in duplicate) and must be forwarded to CSC via WMO Secretariat before April 30th. No application documents will be returned.
Application Receiving Agency and Deadline
Applicants should apply to WMO Secretariat between January and early April.
